Job Title:                Arts Care Assistant working with people with dementia

Contract Status:     Zero hours

Hours of Work:      3.5-12 hours per week (mostly Mondays, Tuesdays, negotiable)

Salary:                     £10 per hour

Arts Care Assistant

Responsibilities

  1. Deliver person-centred care of the highest quality as part of a small team

  2. Support individuals to implement their care plan and record relevant details

  3. Support lead artist to deliver group and individual arts/health interventions

  4. Communicate regularly with carers/supporters

  5. Plan and lead gentle exercise sessions

  6. Assist clients to take refreshments, monitoring nutrition and dietary needs

  7. Assist customers to mobilise and also to use the toilet as necessary         

  8. Maintain an agreeable ambiance and refresh décor within the centre

  9. Assess risks and take appropriate actions

  10. Adhere to the centre’s policies including Safeguarding, Health and Safety, Diversity and Equality etc.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience in dementia care

  • Ability and willingness to support people living with dementia in a person-centred way

  • Have a genuine interest in creative activities

  • Demonstrable excellent communication skills, patience and a sense of humour

  • Enjoy working as part of a team

Desirable

  • Experience planning and delivering small group activities with older people

  • An artistic or creative practice that you can share with our clients

  • NVQ level 2 or above in health and social care, or similar

  • Comfortable using digital technology (e.g music, video and interactive apps)

  • Willingness to work weekends
