Client Profiles

Our guiding purpose is to enrich the life of the person with dementia and give carers a break.

Participants should:

·        Have mild to moderate dementia or similar progressive cognitive condition

·        Any age and place of residence

·        Be able to get to 6, Padge Road, NG7 2JR

·        Be able to use the toilet with minimal support OR be accompanied by a carer

We always start the day with seated exercises, because of the importance of fitness and flexibility as we age.  We often include games of throwing and catching to promote physical co-ordination.  Each month has a theme and each 3-hour session has several different activities relating to that theme.  The people who enjoy coming to The Studio for daycare have a wide range of interests that we aim to include through planned activities.  The methods used include conversation, reminiscence, digital resources, storytelling, paint, collage, sculpture, crafts and music.  When possible we also do cookery, gardening and singing.  There is always lots of laughter and the small groups get to know each other well. 

These groups offer support for couples and carers attend with their partner/family member.  Couples need to be able to get to 6 Padge Road, NG7 2JR. The carers sit separately for an opportunity to chat, share and support each other whilst volunteers engage their partner/family member (participant) in a range of activities as shown below.

Wednesday AM Group 11am-12.30

Participants should:

• Have a love of singing

• Have dementia or similar progressive cognitive condition

• Be able to sit for 90 minutes (although we do include seated exercise)

• Be happy to be parted from carer

• Be of any age and place of residence

We start each session with refreshments and seated exercise. Singing is the main focus of the session and we cover a wide range of songs based loosely on a theme, as well as songs requested by the participant. We also recite well known poems and rhymes. We include actions to most of our songs and poems.

Wednesday PM group 1.30pm -3pm

Participants should:

• Have mild to moderate dementia or similar progressive cognitive condition.

• Be willing to participate in group conversation/ singing.

• Be able to sit for 90mins.

• Be happy to be parted from carer

• Be of any age and place of residence

We start each session with refreshments and a general catch-up. We focus on a topic for each session and include quizzes, songs, poems, discussion around the topic. Participants are encouraged to share experiences where they can and we aim to encourage them to use any means of communication as well as other skills eg reading aloud. As we get to know each individual we draw on their past experiences to make sessions more meaningful and memorable.

This peer support group brings together ...

• Bereaved carers whose partners had dementia

• Carers whose partners are currently in full time care

• Carers currently caring for someone with dementia or similar progressive cognitive condition who are otherwise occupied while they attend Carers’ Corner

It is for people of any age and place of residence who 

can get to 6, Padge Road, NG72JR.  Refreshments are available at each session. There is no set programme for any session; Carers come to chat, share stories and support each other as needed. It has been great to see friendships blossom and to hear of carers taking part in activities together outside of the group.

Family and friends are particularly welcome to this annual Christmas celebration. 

​These 2-hour sessions are led by volunteers trained to support people with memory problems to enjoy discussion all kinds of sports.  With memorabilia, quizzes, the newspapaer Sporting Pink and chair-based games, there  is something for everyone who has an interest in any sport.
